Himlung Himal Expedition (7,126m/23,345ft) is a 7000m peak located in Nepal’s western region. Situated just above the ancient Tibetan village of Phu, Himlung lies in the Nar-Phu region in the northeast of Annapurna and northwest of Manaslu. In 1992 Nar-Phu region officially opened for foreign expeditions and trekkers as the Himlung Himal expedition.
This region is still a restricted area; for this reason, all climbers must get a regional area and climbing permit to enter. The peak gained more popularity when Mr. Akio Koizumi from Japan reached fewer expeditions than any other mountain in the different regions, such as the Khumbu. In terms of popularity, the climbing in Nar-Phu is not comparable with the Khumbu.
The valley rivals beauty to the more popular Khumbu, offering magnificent views of Manaslu, Annapurna, Fishtail, and Gangapurna. The second ascent of the pinnacle of success ten years after the first ascent by a French expedition team in 2002. According to the summiteer’s experience, this 7000m peak is one of the safest and most uncomplicated projects in the Himalayas. The climb of the Himlung Himal Expedition through the typical course represents no specialized issues. The trail leads through day snow and ice with no stone climbing sections. The climbing season is in the fall and spring.

Climbing & Expedition
Himlung Himal is located in the remote Nar–Phu Valley of northern Nepal, close to the Tibetan border, within a restricted trekking and mountaineering region.
The expedition typically takes 30–31 days, including trekking, acclimatization, climbing period, and return to Kathmandu.
The best seasons are spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October), when weather conditions and snow stability are most favorable.
This expedition is best suited for climbers seeking to step into 7,000m Himalayan mountaineering after gaining experience on trekking peaks or 6,000m expeditions.
Himlung Himal is considered moderately challenging among 7,000m peaks. While it is not highly technical, it requires strong physical fitness, altitude tolerance, and basic mountaineering skills.
Yes, Himlung Himal is often recommended as an ideal first 7,000m expedition for climbers with prior experience on 5,000–6,000m peaks.
Acclimatization is managed through a gradual approach trek, a rest day in Phu Gaon, and multiple rotations during the extended climbing period at base camp.
The climb generally involves 2 to 3 high camps, depending on weather, snow conditions, and team strategy.
Climbers require a Himlung Himal climbing permit, Nar–Phu restricted area permit, and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP), all arranged by the expedition operator.
Yes, a licensed expedition leader and certified climbing guides are mandatory due to the restricted region and technical nature of the climb.
